NZ Healthy Homes is a certified meth testing and healthy homes compliance specialist operating across Auckland and Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. Founded in 2016 by Steve Hegh, the company provides independent testing, assessment, and reporting services for landlords, property managers, real estate agents, and homeowners.

## What we do

NZ Healthy Homes provides certified meth sampling, asbestos testing, healthy homes assessments, smoke alarm testing and compliance, and landlord property services. All testing is conducted in compliance with NIOSH 9111 protocols. Laboratory analysis is performed by Hill Laboratories, an IANZ-accredited facility. Reports are peer-reviewed before delivery and results are provided within 24 to 48 hours.

NIOSH 9111 compliant swab sampling for methamphetamine and precursors. Composite and individual room testing available. Hill Laboratories IANZ-accredited analysis. Instant screen testing from $129 plus GST. Composite lab testing from $279 plus GST. Field composite sampling from $199 plus GST. Results in 2 working days. Available 7 days a week with 24 hours notice.

### Asbestos Testing
IP402 qualified asbestos surveying and reporting. Full asbestos surveys, simple assessments, and sampling of areas of concern. Management plans for landlords and property managers. Pre-purchase surveys available. Compliant with HSWA Asbestos Regulations 2016.

### Healthy Homes Assessments
HomeFit certified assessments covering all five Healthy Homes Standards: heating, insulation, ventilation, moisture and drainage, and draught stopping. From $250 plus GST. Full compliance report delivered to landlords and property managers.

### Smoke Alarm Testing and Reporting
Testing and certification of smoke alarms compliant with Residential Tenancies (Smoke Alarms and Insulation) Regulations 2016. Decibel testing, expiry date checking, battery testing, and distance measurement to bedrooms. From $90 plus GST per year. Photoelectric alarms installed where required.

### Landlord Services
Property inspections and inspection reports. Minor repairs. Small painting jobs. Water blasting. Fire alarm checking and installation. Services typically carried out between tenancies or when preparing a property for sale.

## 2026 RTA meth regulations

The Residential Tenancies (Managing Methamphetamine Contamination) Regulations 2026 came into force on 16 April 2026. Key thresholds:

- Decontamination threshold: 15 micrograms per 100cm2
- Uninhabitable threshold: 30 micrograms per 100cm2
- Previous decontamination threshold under NZ Standard 8510:2017 was 1.5 micrograms per 100cm2

Baseline testing is strongly recommended for all landlords to establish documented legal protection between tenancies. Without a baseline test, landlords cannot hold tenants accountable for contamination.
